Are Meta Tags Important for your Home Business site?As you build your Home Business website, you will of course ask your self just how important meta tags are for the success of your site on the search engines. Well, first of all, the each part of the meta tag varies in importance. The title tag is by far the most important, followed by the description meta tag. The keyword tag has dropped dramatically in importance recently due to the fact that many webmasters were "stuffing" this particular tag with keywords that were not related to the actual content of their website in an attempt to decieve the search engine robots and bring in more hits. Because of this, not only is the keyword tag less important than in times past, but some search engines reportedly do not even factor in this tag in their algorithisms' these days. go figure. I still use the keyword meta tag on some of my sites because i figure it is still used by some of the search engines. In fact meta tags are given a varying degree of weight depending on the particular search engine, and some search engines, such as scrubtheweb and aiewi will not even spider your site without them (Incidentally, scrubtheweb has a free meta tag checker for your site). Other search engines such as exactseek give them a lot of weight. Obviously directories like Yahoo and DMOZ do not use them since they are not spiders but in fact human edited. The main search engines such as Google and search Msn give them a certain amount of weight so it is still important to add them to your home business website.
