Swapping links to promote your Home Business websiteAfter you have completed your Home business website, your next step is to promote it. After you have submitted your website to the main search engines and directories, and possibly opened up a pay per click account, your next move might naturally be to beginning trading links with similiar yet non-competing websites. Link exchanges are a common method to increase the "link popularity" of your website in the eyes of the Search Engines while getting some extra eyeballs to see your website in the meantime. Link swapping, or reciprocal linking, is an important method for improving the Page Rank of your site without spending a penny on advertising. And what is great about link swapping is that it is especially easy to do. No special technical skill is required except the ability to add a small amount of html code. You can usually just cut and paste the code provided! Exchanging links is an ongoing task and you should try to spend some time doing it every day, even if it is just one or two link swaps a day. The key is persistence and consistency. This consistency is very important because many of the webmasters that you contact will not agree to a link swap. So to keep the link popularity of your Home Business site constantly improving you should be e-mailing a substantial number of webmasters every single week. Once you write a letter to another webmaster asking to exchange links, you will want to keep a copy of this letter so you can simply copy and paste it the next time you want to e-mail a reciprocal link offer. Believe me, this will save you a ton of time in the long run. Still, you may want to slightly alter each letter after you paste it so that that it appears to be personalized to each particular recipient. And on that topic make sure you know exactly who you are sending mail to so that you cannot be accused of spamming. Link swaps can generate you a lot of income and they are free, yet you should definately keep up with sites that you trade with to make certain that your link has indeed been added to their site. As a general rule of thumb, do not concern yourself too much with the automatic link sites that have proliferated around the interenet. These somewhat disorganized (or even completely random) listing of websites is not going to provide your website with a whole lot of quality traffic that will bring many sales and the relevency factor is often terrible as the Search Engines often recognize the sites as a mishmash of unfocused content with no clear theme. I have heard that if you link to such unfocused sites that have poor pagerank and/or relevency then your site may be penalized by some Search Engines. I would imagine it would be the very smart (and critical) Search Engines like Google that might penalize you for this. If at all possible, try to ensure that your link is on a page that has a Google Page rank of at least 4. While link popularity is very important to the search engines for page rank purposes, so is link relevency. For this reason try to to swap links with as many sites that have a similiar theme to yours as possible. If you follow each of these steps your home business website should have plenty of success! |
