Using Free for All pages, or FFA's, to promote your Home Business website
One way that webmasters bring fast traffic to their home business website is by using free for all pages (FFA),
also known as free-for-alls or simply message boards(not to be confused with bulletin boards, which are somewhat different).
Free for all Pages or probably more useful in the beginning stages of your home business website because they can bring you instant traffic while you are waiting for your search
engine and directory listings to kick in. You often recieve traffic the same day that post your site to FFA's.
As promotional tools go, FFA's will probably not send you a large amount of traffic (perhaps several hits per day per page),
but even this modest amount of traffic can help you test the design of your site if you track you visitors, get a few subscribers to your mailing
list or newsletter if you have one and possible get a sale or two depending on how well your site is designed. This modest amount of traffic will probably be most welcome
as your waiting to be listed on DMOZ and other key sites and then will probably decline in importance as you achieve a steady stream of search engine and directory traffic to your Home Business site.
For more detail on the subject, I have included an article below by marketing author Bob McElwain.
I differ with Bob on one key point: he believes that posting to free for alls is no longer worth the time and effort as he believes the market is simply too saturated.
However, I disagree and feel that he overlooks a key point: One of the reasons to submit your site to FFA's is to increase your link popularity
which will thus give you a better ranking on the search engines. This is especially true with Google and search msn. Submitting to FFA's
can substantially increase you link popularity with these engines. So I still submit my Home Business site to the FFA's for this reason.
Bob's article is entitled: FFA (Free For All) Sites: Do They Work? It has been slightly modified. More information about Bob McElwain is provided at the end of this article:
In the early days of the Web, about 2-3 years ago, Free-for-alls were effective in producing traffic to many websites. FFA's are basically lists of brief classified-type ads with a link to the submitting site. Just Submit a first-class ad and at least some hits would be generated. Generally, a new submission goes to the top of the list or category, as the oldest listing is pushed out.
This plan was effective, because finding things on the internet was not as easy then as it is now. So many surfers had 1 or 2 FFAs bookmarked.
While submitting was in fact time consuming, resubmitting once a week pretty much assured your ad would be available.
