The important thing to remember when starting to advertise your Home Business is that you should take a pro-active approach
because action always beats inaction. Mistakes are going to happen and they are an essential part of the overall process. Mistakes are how we learn.
You can read all of the home business reports, magazines and articles available but until you put
those ideas into motion it is nothing more than ink on paper. It is particularly crucial to keep this in mind because
the area where you will probably make the most mistakes when you start your home business is in advertising. There are so many choices
and so many promises and hype involved in this area that it is hard not to stumble at least once or twice. You will see all kinds of different
sales copy making claims such as "triple your sales for pennies on the dollar", explode you downline with this $30 product", or
"get tens of thousands of subscribers to your newsletter with this easy to use tool" and on and on. These overhyped claims seem to be especially
prevalent on the internet but abound pretty much everywhere. Just know you will probably try something that will not work for you. it may be the right
choice for another business. Just be willing to make some contacts, make some mistakes and you will eventually learn the business.
But it won't happen overnight.
Advertising can be expensive so a mistake here can be costly a lesson. You want to have as much up to date information as possible to make an informed decision because this area changes quickly.
If you are advertising on the internet, for example, banner advertising has rapidly lost it's effectiveness. What was once a novel idea that people clicked on, now gets by some estimates less than a 1 in 100 click through ratio.
Pay per click search engines can also be tricky. Ezine and newsletter ads are generally more effective and often less expensive.
Put some time and energy into low cost marketing venues that are proven result-getters such as networking and referrals.
Writing articles is a great idea because people always need articles and you get a free by-line at the bottom of the article to promote your business. Search engines are often free but take time to optimize for. It can also take a long time to be found on the major search engines and directories these days.
Joining groups can bring in customers. Perhaps the best way to get new customers, though, is to give great customer service and then ask those loyal customers for referrals.
